This CD box set contains the highly-acclaimed BBC Radio dramatisations of 'The Lord of the Rings' and its fantastic prelude 'The Hobbit', along with two CDs of thrilling music. These magical adaptations became instant classics when they were first broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and continue to delight today. Tolkien's epic tale of Middle-earth has all the classic ingredients of fantasy and adventure: dwarves, elves, goblins and trolls, a terrifying dragon, a great wizard, a fearsome evil, a perilous quest and a dramatic climax. With an all-star cast including Ian Holm, Michael Hordern, Robert Stephens, John le Mesurier and Bill Nighy, these enchanting dramatisations are a must for all Tolkien fans. 'For those who find the books too long-winded and the films too noisy, this is the perfect way to assimilate the myth and magic of Middle-earth' - Guardian

Good story version, not like the book though

This is a fantastic dramatised version, with different characters/voices/actors telling the tale. this is not a word by word audiobook like Harry Potter (which you could follow along with the book). this version is like the story coming to life, with sound effects and music. its beautifully put together.

Nice packaging, which seems strong and durable, it arrived in well packaged box with protective packing. Thick-card Cd cases with each book in.

The total length of all of these books is 16hrs so you could listen to it in a day, reading it would take much longer. however you would not get all the details of the story, or the images or runes/elvish writing.

Overall brilliant book, good version of the story, but not the whole story.
