Review

A provocative and ground-breaking new 'live; phone-in show for Radio 4, hosted by award-winning journalist and talk radio DJ, Gary Bellamy.

Down the Line is a spoof phone-in show hosted by fictitious 'journalist/broadcaster' Gary (Rhys Thomas) and is the brainchild of Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson. Listeners are invited to call in to Radio 4 and give their opinions on a range of subjects from 'freedom of speech' to 'hairstyles for dogs'.

Unfortunately, the callers won't get through because all the calls have been pre-recorded by a team of comedians, including: Simon Day, Catherine Tate, Felix Dexter, Harry Enfield, Charlie Higson, Paul Whitehouse and many others.

The show hopes to undermine the pomposity, politeness and political correctness of genuine phone in shows - and be funny.

If you play this in your car while on the way to work, you'll think you're listening to a real radio talk show where people phone in with random opinions to "topics of the day". Of course, you aren't and the characters being portrayed by the comedians and also guest comedians will have you laughing your head off in the traffic jams. Paul Whitehouse is a legend!
