Quite how anyone in any way involved with this TV series managed to permit this release is beyond me. The story is simplistic, short, trivial and without insight or suspense. Much of the CD is taken up with a self-congratulatory "aren't we clever" piece on the background to the show.
Sci-fi stories, as the TV series knows, needs to have adventure, uncertainty, characterisation and plot. Sometimes you can get rid of one of these (Asimov and Clarke both got rid of characterisation for example) but you absolutely can't get rid of all four.
For me, it was the money wasted on this load of rubbish that made me be very careful from now on, on all BBC-TV related audio books.
As a result maybe I will miss some gems, but at least I won't waste time listening to something so painfully terrible.
