From the bestselling author of "No Logo", Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" cracks open the secret history of our era to look at how from a privileged few are making millions from worldwide devastation. Around the world in Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, there are people with power who are cashing in on chaos; exploiting bloodshed and catastrophe to brutally remake our world in their image. They are the shock doctors. Exposing these global profiteers, Naomi Klein discovered information and connections that shocked even her about how comprehensively the shock doctors' beliefs now dominate our world - and how this domination has been achieved. Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed. "Packed with thinking dynamite ...a book to be read everywhere". (John Berger). "If you only read one non-fiction book this year, make it this one". ("Metro Books of the Year"). "There are a few books that really help us understand the present. The Shock Doctrine is one of those books". (John Gray, "Guardian")."A brilliant book written with a perfectly distilled anger, channelled through hard fact. She has indeed surpassed No Logo". ("Independent"). Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist, author and filmmaker. Her first book was the international bestseller "No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies", called 'a movement bible' by "The New York Times". "The Shock Doctrine" has been translated into more than twenty languages.

I had read some Naomi Klein and i thought she was just about average. My son recommended *Shock Doctrine* and i was shocked (!) by how good the book is. She goes over lots of stuff I know or have read about but relates it to the theories propagated by*Chicago School of Economics* which led to the, so-called, *Washington Consensus* (Privatisation, De-Regulation and the small State IE no more welfare and services. We in Britain are well down that road but have time to fight and reverse the process. You in Europe have been warned! Thanks Naomi and thanks son.

More info than the Bible and The Koran combined....

I can't believe nobody has reviewed this yet....!

This book will rip open the eyelids of anyone who knows there is a war going on, but is not quite sure why, despite all the propaganda of WMD and 'delivery of freedom'.

Read this and you will never loose an argument on the War in Iraq.

Exceptionally sourced and referenced. Thank God Bush is gone soon; let's hope the democrats can reverse some of the damage done by the short sighted money grabbing nepotistic policy of the republicans.

 Vital read

This is possibly one of the most important books of our time. It gives a much clearer picture of what is going on the world than all the latest WikiLeaks gossip, and explains the rationale behind the way the banks work and Cameron's spending cuts, which are the same as those done by Chilean dictator Pinochet. Very well written and researched, but not an easy read. It will probably make you angry, but it will definitely open your eyes. Still as relevant, if not more so, as the day it was written.
