Michael Lewis' bestselling tale of greed and corruption is repackaged as a Great Read for a broad new readership. From mere trainee to lowly geek, to triumphal Big Swinging Dick: that was Michael Lewis' pell-mell progress through the dealing rooms of Salomon Brothers in New York and London during the heady mid-1980s when they were probably the world's most powerful and profitable merchant bank. A true-life Bonfire of the Vanities, funny, frightening, breathless and heartless, his is a tale of hysterical greed and ambition set in an obsessed, enclosed world.

Few people today remember Salomon Brothers. I only had a vague memory of a scandal, when the Wall Street investment bank almost did "a Lehman Brothers" 20 years before LB really did it.
But this book is not about that. This is from the 80s and show the inside of the bank during a time of real innovation. Mortgage bonds. Junk bonds. Hostile takeovers.
Not invented in the 80s but this book show how they started to become large. And 20 years later would cause the crash of 2008.
