In July 1942, thirteen-year-old Anne Frank and her family, fleeing the occupation, went into hiding in an Amsterdam warehouse. Over the next two years Anne describes in her diary the frustrations of living in such close quarters. This title presents her dairy that ends abruptly when, in August 1944, they were all betrayed.

This is one of the best reads I've had in a long while....

I read this while at work over the 6 weeks holidays and can honestly say that it's one of the most interesting slants on the Natzi holocaust that I've ever read.

Anne Frank, her family, and one other family are all Jewish and hiding from the Natzi police in a secret annexe at the back of a warehouse. Various people help then to get by- food, ration books and essentials are purchased from the black market as the ever looming threat of death hangs above their heads.

You may know all of this already from various history shows or lessons, but this book is much more than that.

When you're finished reading this you'll feel like you know her, like you've clambered (strangley invited) into her mind. She goes into intimate detail concerning her feelings towards her family, her situation, boys (and girls..)... A great insight into the female mind!!

She intended for her diaries to be sent out into the public, so the world could see what it was like for her, for people around her... the waiting, watching, listening...

Best for: Girls, ages: 7-70!.... History enthusiasts: ANY!!.... Anyone witha general interest really!

Would have been a great writer/author

The death of Anna Frank robbed the world of a literary genius as exemplified by her diary. Mores the pity that the BBC missed an
opportunity with its placid account of Anne Frank`s diaries, even
though the actress Ellie Kendrick looked like a reincarnation of
the young Dutch girl. The sets were very accurate, but to get the
feel of what Anna`s heartbreaking short life was all about, you
have to read this. Many forget that her sister Margot like Anna
died of starvation at Bergen Belsen. The Nazi`s were thugs,
bullies and cowards. Sadly so many SS officers escaped justice
and disappeared into German industry and South America. Of
course one of them was taken in by the Americans, Werner Von
Braun, developing their space industry. Those six years were the
lowest that mankind has ever sunk, but do we learn from history ?
I don`t think so.

This is a great book, don't get me wrong I really do think it is.. But reading the thoughts of this young girl who was obviously so full of life and at the same time knowing how it all ended.. Well, don't read this book if you don't like a good cry :)

 Loved it
