Harry Potter is an ordinary boy who lives in a cupboard under the stairs at his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house, which he thinks is normal for someone like him who's parents have been killed in a 'car crash'. He is bullied by them and his fat, spoilt cousin Dudley, and lives a very unremarkable life with only the odd hiccup (like his hair growing back overnight!) to cause him much to think about. That is until an owl turns up with a letter addressed to Harry and all hell breaks loose! He is literally rescued by a world where nothing is as it seems and magic lessons are the order of the day. Read and find out how Harry discovers his true heritage at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, the reason behind his parents mysterious death, who is out to kill him, and how he uncovers the most amazing secret of all time, the fabled Philosopher's Stone! All this and muggles too. Now, what are they? This is Jo's first book and she has already written seven outlines for Harry's further adventures at Hogwarts. She lives in Edinburgh.

One of the best books I have read, A must-read from me. I know what your thinking its going to be a really boring book, just like me before I opened the book to start reading it, however its just a marvelous book. Its suitable for adults and children. I am 11 so there... If you gave it a chance, you wouldn't be able to put the book down!!!!

A magical start to the series.

On his eleventh birthday Harry Potter discovers he is a wizard and soon finds himself enrolling at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry where the fun really starts as Harry and his friends aim to foil a plot to steal the Philosopher's Stone. This book is great for kids and adults alike and will have you frantically turning the pages to get to the end where you'll be wanting even more magic. Fortunately this is the first of a seven part series to enjoy. Fantastic escapism.

I've always heard how much these books were loved. I have a friend that loves the books and quite a few relatives who think they are unbelievable. My great uncle had a spare copy of each book except for the first two, so I decided I'd buy the first two so could get started and see what all the fuss was about. I literally read the first book in 2 days. I know it's a small book, but it was so well written. J.K Rowling is one of those few authors that don't just describe the main characters and locations, she's an author that describes EVERY character, and EVERY location with great great detail! I loved this book, and I'm now in the process of reading the second one!
