Lines may divide us, but hope will unite us ...Nine-year-old Bruno knows nothing of the Final Solution and the Holocaust. He is oblivious to the appalling cruelties being inflicted on the people of Europe by his country. All he knows is that he has been moved from a comfortable home in Berlin to a house in a desolate area where there is nothing to do and no one to play with. Until he meets Shmuel, a boy who lives a strange parallel existence on the other side of the adjoining wire fence and who, like the other people there, wears a uniform of striped pyjamas. Bruno's friendship with Shmuel will take him from innocence to revelation. And in exploring what he is unwittingly a part of, he will inevitably become subsumed by the terrible process.

 Fantastic & moving

This is a fantastic book, the story is not long but it does not need to be, written exactly in the way a 9 year old boy thinks. It is a story of friendship and sadness and really moving, unlike anything I have read before. The ending really gets you and makes you think about the book for a long time after. Definately one to buy.

I am a 51 year old woman and thought it was absolutely brilliant, bringing tears to my eyes at the innocence of the children. Since buying it a month ago, I have lent it to five people (all adults) 4 of which have read it and loved it.

we started reading this book in my english class last year in year 9, but it was at the end of the term, we never got to finish it. but as it is such a good book i found you just cant read this book and not fnish it. some people in my class didnt enjoy it much, but i really enjoyed it, i actually got it out of the library over the summer, and i have seen the book on a couple of my friends book shelves aswell.

this book is great, it keeps you guessing at whats happening, or that may be because our teacher told us nothing about it before, she said we had to read it and work it out for our selves. which im glad about

hope you enjoy the book as much as i did

John boyne is a very talented writer and has told the story of bruno very well. I couldn't stop myself from reading it because it drags you in and doesn't let you go until you finish the book! Buy it now!!
