Mezrich's most popular piece is no doubt Bringing Down the House but I think that almost helps in this situation. I was not sure what to expect from this and I think it is far better written. Right from the opening chapter you are thrown in to a chaotic frenzy where it is refreshing to see that the protagonist is not the perfect "American" child but in fact of Russian origin. This makes the purpose of his mission far more important as he breaks the Great American Machine that is the casinos. Cultural Significance? Plenty. But that is just one interpretation.
It has pace, suspense, and as is expected, romance. But the best part of the romance is that it is not forced; it is real, believable and when reading about Semyon, you feel like you are right there with him at every single turn.
Definately a strong read, highly entertaining, and a story that will linger under the skin long after the pages are shut.
