 Nicely written and very engrossing

This isn't the type of book i would normally pick but i am so glad i ended up reading it.
I found it quite tiresome at first as it was written from a 5 year olds perspective and very different from other books i read but once i got used to the phrasing i was very much involved.
It is a tribute to Maternal Love and the strength of the characters shines through in what can only be the most hellish experience imaginable.
In retrospect writing the book from Jack's point of view was an excellent choice as any other way would have made it truely depressing. The innocence of Jack to his confined world is heart warming and he provides some gentle laughs.
I really enjoyed this book and i would recommend it to anyone regardless of what you would normally read.

 Well worth a read!

Perfectly done in three parts. Written in Jack's voice, the first begins quite slowly (do have patience - it's worth it!) as the reader realises what Ma and Jack's situation is, then quickly picks up the pace in the second part to a scene which had my heart racing at one point! The third part of the story is centred around coming to terms with the events in the second and is sad, tender and really enables the reader to empathise with Jack and his feelings. The ending is bittersweet but in no way a disappointment. Fab!

after reading many books from, A Child Called It --all Torey Haydens and watching numerous true stories, i stopped. As a foster carer for over 15 yrs i thought i'd already read and seen verything. This story is not just fiction, my family and I are caring for a child who is just like Jack. He's been with his parents for 8 yrs but knows nothing. with us he's seen , the sea, the beach, dark nights, summer nights now, feeding animals at the farm (which terrified him). etc etc etc.. Reading this book has made me realise why I'm constantly asked questions from xxx and why I need to keep answering them ..

 UNPUTDOWNABLE

I read about 50 pages of this book before I went to bed, picked it up at lunchtime the next day and, apart from cooking dinner, couldn't put it down. I finished it at 8 o'clock in the evening with a sigh of relief that all ended well. Wonderful book, harrowing at times but, written in the child's voice brought his world to you. Super read and I shall recommend it to all my friends and family.

 Truly amazing

From the moment I started reading this book I was hooked. It tells the story from a child's perspective which game the whole situation in which Jack lives so much more impact on the reader. I read it in two days & found it hard to put down. This book really made me think of all the things me & my kids take for granted everyday .
