Comment: Aged book. PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASE. Please note this book is over 20 years old. It will therefore have tanned pages, age spots and plenty of shelfwear. However for its age it is still very useable, and a great read.

On the hottest day of the summer of 1934, thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis sees her sister Cecilia strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching her is Robbie Turner, her childhood friend who, like Cecilia, has recently come down from Cambridge. By the end of that day, the lives of all three will have been changed for ever. Robbie and Cecilia will have crossed a boundary they had not even imagined at its start, and will have become victims of the younger girl's imagination. Briony will have witnessed mysteries, and committed a crime for which she will spend the rest of her life trying to atone.

Chose this book to read after missing seeing it in the cinema. What a great book. Just finished reading it and found it so difficult to put down. I have just ordered another Ian McEwan novel and hope this is as good.

 Fantastic

This is one of the greatest books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. McEwan is an amazing author and in my opinion this is his finest work. If you liked the movie, buy this! It is 100 times better than the film, although it is fantastic, it's no where near as good as the book. Compelling and moving throughout, the ending brings tears to the eys.
