Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart, he's the perfect gentleman: he has a shy girlfriend, and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: he is an accomplished serial killer. So far, he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence. And while that may lead some people to assume he's not such a nice guy, he tempers his insatiable hunger for brutality by only killing the bad guys. However, Dexter's well-organised life is suddenly disrupted when a second, much more visible serial killer appears in Miami. Intrigued that the other killer favours a style similar to his own, Dexter soon realises that the mysterious new arrival is not simply invading his turf but offering him a direct invitation to 'come out and play'...

Be grateful its not yours.

Meet Dexter, he's a forensic scientist in Miami, his expertise is blood spatter, he's charming, handsome, works well with others, has a steady girlfriend, likes children and wants to help his sister become a detective. He's also a sociopathic serial killer but he only kills those who deserve it. Jeff Lindsay creates a unique character who keeps the reader's affections whatever he does. Very funny. The DVD box of the TV series is due soon

 Dark Dexter

These books are brilliant. They combine the darkness of murder with humour = creating a truely sparkling gruesome character Dexter.

The sequals are equally good leaving me on the edge of my seat, racing through the pages to the end of the book.

If you watched the series, you should definitely read the books. It's always good to make a comparison and there is a lot to be compared. Both are brilliant, of course, and the plot is ... around the same, but it's different in places. I won't give anything away, but the ending is different to the first series and the 'Ice Truck Killer' isn't actually called that - they don't give him a pet name, shame.

Even if you haven't watched the series, read it.

Dexter's wit and charm and descriptive narration is gripping. You won't be able to put it down, I promise!

I love the tv series and now i love the books. I usually don't enjoy reading AT ALL! But as soon as i started i couldn't stop. I love the books and i think i may be a Dexter addict.

I was in a hardware store the other day and all i could think was "hey, thats probably the same type of saw Dexter would use to cut up bodies!" Then i briefly considered buying one.
