There are many different breeds of Black Dog affecting millions of people from all walks of life. The Black Dog is an equal opportunity mongrel. It was Winston Churchill who popularized the phrase Black Dog to describe the bouts of depression he experienced for much of his life. Matthew Johnstone, a sufferer himself, has written and illustrated this moving and uplifting insight into what it is like to have a Black Dog as a companion and how he learned to tame it and bring it to heel.

This book was shown to me by one of my clients and it's very simplicity was a winner for me. I have since used it with clients and they have said it is so easy for them to identify with as they cannot even make the effort to read when feeling down. It is now part of my tool kit as the words are to the point and the illustration says it all for them. I can then get a better understanding of where exactly they are when they first come to see me and we use it to gauge progress thereafter.

 Truly amazing
