'We're hungry,' his brother kept repeating. 'We're hungry, Justin. Please find us some food.' Justin was just five years old; his brothers two and three. Their mother, a heroin addict, had left them hungry and alone, while she went to get her next fix. Later that day, after trying to burn down the family home, Justin was taken into care.

I have read a lot of true life books along these lines but no other writer has ever produced such a true to life, honest book like this. i found it impossible to put down?!The story tells of a badly abused child who everybody seems to give up on, until casey and her family make a break through. reading a book from a both a childs point of view and the carers was fascinating and insightful. apparently Casey is the next Kathy Glass, well i beg to differ, Casey Watson is in a league of her own!! a fantastically written, touching first novel! i cannot wait for her next book!!x
