"A Year in Christine's Garden" is the utterly down-to-earth account of one woman's passion for plants. Recounting stories from her hectic life in horticulture, Christine Walkden's diary is a heartwarming account of octogenarian neighbours, living with a film crew and helping friends with their gardening needs. Reflecting all the charm of her BBC2 television series, Christine's narrative paints a picture of the day-to-day beauty that surrounds her. She likes being outside, she likes walking her dog Tara, she likes watching the light change and she enjoys those little moments when everything seems right in the world. With irrepressible enthusiasm, she interweaves tips and advice to prove that the best gardens are approachable and achievable. Forget fashion, forget trends - Christine's garden is about no-nonsense planting and growing what you enjoy. As the year progresses, this warm, but frank diary brings to life all the moments of pride, excitement, relaxation and laugh-out-loud fun that make Christine's garden a haven of contentment.

A truly inspirational read. It's a book about the year in the life of a lady who truly eats, sleeps and dreams about gardening. It just makes you want to go out and have a go. It makes you feel that anybody can garden and it's true, just have a go, it's very good for you. Anything is possible and her enthusiasm is very catching. It's a joy to read and reminds you constantly about what's important in life. If I am feeling sad, I only have to read afew pages to feel and realise what's important in life - gardening!! The only thing missing is the DVD of series 1 and 2, please hurry up!!

 Misleading title

While I enjoyed reading this book, I feel that the title is misleading. I had hoped it would be all about gardening throughout one year in Christine's own garden. In fact, it is about the making of the series "A Year in Christine's Garden" with just a few gardening tips along the way and an account of her visits to clients and lecturing responsibilities. In reality, I feel it should have been entitled 'A Year OF "Christine's Garden"' so that anyone like me, who was hoping for a month-by-month account of gardening tips will not be disappointed.
