The inside of Derren Brown's head is a strange and mysterious place. Now you can climb inside and wander around. Find out just how Derren's mind works, see what motivates him and discover what made him the weird and wonderful person he is today. Obsessed with magic and illusions since childhood, Derren's life to date has been an extraordinary journey and here, in "Confessions of a Conjuror," he allows us all to join him on a magical mystery tour - to the centre of his brain...Taking as his starting point the various stages of a conjuring trick he's performing in a crowded restaurant, Derren's endlessly engaging narrative wanders through subjects from all points of the compass, from the history of magic and the fundamentals of psychology to the joys of internet shopping and the proper use of Parmesan cheese. Brilliant, hilarious and entirely unlike anything else you have ever read before, "Confessions of a Conjuror" is also a complete and utter joy.

An Absolute Pleasure To Read - Witty, Refreshing & Kind

Derren takes you on an insightful journey into his thought processes and feelings in this sweet, refreshing variation of an autobiography. The reader is soon absorbed into the personal anxieties and amusing anecdotes that run through this book, ranging from his choice of toilet literature to how to poach the perfect egg, all of whilst centred around performing card tricks to restaurant clientele.

At times this book is funny, for instance when the author reminisces about time spent with his elderly friend Dorothy or strange childhood quirks, whilst also being affectionate when talking about the tenderness of falling in love. I personally found the agitation that Derren describes in losing things or having little patience at times as hilarious, as it is so true of me, and many others I'm sure, so it very much struck a chord but was so eloquently described and put into much better words than I ever could.

A definite must read for any Derren fan, it is a privilege to be given the chance to briefly enter the frenzy that goes on in his head, though I doubt many people will ever fully understand the man that is Derren Brown, and nor should they! An excellent book that you wwill not be able to put down and will leave wanting more!

A real treat for the fans

Despite being a fan of Derren's, I was a bit skeptical about this one as it received mixed reviews. This I can only attribute to its being so different to any autobiography I've read, but (I find) in a good way.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes his work enough to follow what he has been doing the past few years and is interested in gaining insight into his life and what makes him tick... both of which he is refreshingly candid about in this book.

It had me laughing out loud in parts--something I absolutely adore doing. I shall undoubtedly be re-reading it in future, unlike many other autobios on my shelf :)
