It seems excessive!but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Saul "Slash" Hudson was born in Hampstead to a Jewish father, an album cover artist, and a black American mother of Nigerian descent, who created David Bowie's look in The Man Who Fell to Earth. He was raised in Stoke until he was 11, when he and his mother moved to LA. Frequent visitors to the house were David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Ron Wood and Iggy Pop, . At this time Slash got into BMX bikes, and would eventually turn professional, winning won major awards and money, but at 15 his grandmother gave him his first guitar. Even though it had just one string he began teaching himself to play, and soon school was forgotten as he devoted up to 12 hours a day to honing his skills. Sessions with numerous local LA rock bands followed until a fateful meeting with singer W Axl Rose! and the rest was rock history. Guns and Roses spent two years building their reputation before Appetite for Destruction, their debut album, was unleashed on an unsuspecting Eighties audience.Chart success and global domination followed but with it came the inevitable fall: heavily addicted to heroin, booze and cigarettes, the strain of this and 18 months touring the Use your Illusion albums finally caused the world's greatest rock band to implode, and Slash had a major falling out with Axl Rose, a rift that to this day is as deep as ever. But a new wife, kids and a new band, Velvet Revolver, have put Slash back on track -- the heroin is gone, but the cigarettes and alcohol will be there forever. The iconic lead guitarist tells in his own words the amazing tale of how a boy from Stoke ended up in Hollywood as part of Guns and Roses. Finally, all the lurid tales of sex, drugs and rock and roll are revealed as he describes the incredible rollercoaster journey as part of the biggest rock band in the world, living life to the full during the Eighties.

As a reasonable GNR fan and an ex guitar learner, I stumbled across this title by accident looking for books for someone else.

I love struggle tales either real or fictional, Kane and Abel being a guide to the fictional kind of book that I love, but upon reading the description, I thought that this is going to be one hell of a book that cannot be missed especially for a fiver.

I hope that this book comes out in audiobook format, as I have a blind friend who loves GNR and this would make his day.

This is going to be a must read for any fan or any guitar player really.

 Unexpectedly good!

I have to admit, this book was a huge surprise. I expected a decent read, and several great stories from the golden years of Guns N' Roses. I got that and so much more, as the book turned out to be everything a rock bio should be. Slash tells everything the way it was, in remarkable detail. It is brutally honest, but manages to be so without trying to slag anyone off. No "uncomfortable" events are skipped. Everything that went down is here. It is told in a frank and entertaining way. The ups, the downs, etc. If you ever wondered about the inner workings of Guns N' Roses, the relationship between Axl and Slash, how most of their famous songs came about, how the albums were made, and all the events that eventually led to the demise of the band - it's all here, and a great read. A very unexpected, but very pleasant, recommendation!

 Excellent

At first I bought this thinking it'll be pretty dark and messy to read but I was entirely wrong. Usually I wouldn't pick up such a think book not knowing much about the person but just looking up to them in general but it was so very much worth the decision to buy this.

It brings such a deep and meaningful insight to the world fo Rock n Roll and especially the world before I was born and how it was like back then.

The inside of GnR and his future onward is fascinating and he's like us, a human being, but his world is just something beyond a lot of people will ever reach and it's so honest as well.

I highly recommend this read, it didn't bore me and it didn't drag or go on at any part like some autobiographies do, it's very fascinating and you get by it very quickly!

I have so much more respect knowing Slash behind the scenes now and just how much of a personality, history and character he has. It'd astonishing. I would love to meet him but this is as close as it gets.

 Awsome

Awesome book.
This didn't let down pretty much sex, drugs and rock and roll all the way through.

I wouldn't say i was a Guns n' Roses fan but i would recommend this to anyone.
Great insight into the turmoil into one of the best bands in history.

A must read

I knew Slash was a hellraiser before, but damn!

I found reading this book to be really captivating, I couldn't put it down as soon as it came through the post. Slash is really honest about his whole life to date, from his childhood, the highs and lows of being in G N'R, the Snakepit and Velvet Revolver and of course the sex, drugs and alcohol. He doesn't mince his words one bit about the whole sex, drugs and rock n' roll excess he's experienced which was in my opinion the most interesting part to read about. Also his relationship with Axl Rose is also interesting, from how they were close in the early days to the point where they were only communicating through their management in their final days. Overall the book is really interesting to read, I knew slash was a hellraiser but once you read this it really does shock you.
