I have recently just finished this book (the hardback version) and I have to say that I loved it. Written as letters to her nearest and dearest friends and family you get to see elements of the real Dawn French. Funny and moving in equal measures there is nothing precocious in her writing. There were events in her life and feelings of sadness and joy that I could totally relate to. I often sat outside work reading during my lunchbreak and had to stop myself laughing just incase people were passing by. I don't read many celebrity biographies but I loved this one.
I've just read this book on holiday and i thought it was brilliant - it really is.
I read this book because i like Dawn French so i probably would have liked it even if it was rubbish but it wasn't it was fantastic.
I loved how she didn't blabber on about how successful she is which most people do in their autobiographies. I thought it was both funny and sad at the same time which which i think is why i liked it.
I've always liked Dawn French ever since is was about 8 when i watched the Vicar of Dibley and french adn Saunders.
I hope Dawn French continues acting becuase she really is a jem and i think she is a genuine and nice person.
Hi!!!! Dawn French if you are reading this which i hope you are becuase it would only be human nature to read reviews about your book which is brilliant by the way.
Btw, i think i like you also becuase you look like my mum so much so that on a train once somone asked her for her autograph thinkin it was you !!!!
Can you believe that??
xx
I love Dawn French but found the book really hard going, the only chapter i liked was Dear Len. I still haven't finished it it's back on the bookshelf
I have never read a book like this one. My sister gave this to me for Christmas and I absolutely love it!! As the book is memoirs in letter form to her friends and family, you discover Dawn is the salt of the earth and, quite rightly, a national treasure. Her letters to Madonna I found to be absolutely hilarious. Her letters to her father and her brother are the most touching and heartfelt, reducing you to tears . If you are a fan then this book is highly recommended and a book to read over and over again. Thank you Dawn for sharing these memories. x
I could not put this book down. It made me laugh so much. I love the way it's written. You really do get to know about French.
It is a must to read!
