Ranulph Fiennes has travelled to the most dangerous and inaccessible places on earth, almost died countless times, lost nearly half his fingers to frostbite, raised millions of pounds for charity and been awarded a polar medal and an OBE. He has been an elite soldier, an athlete, a mountaineer, an explorer, a bestselling author and nearly replaced Sean Connery as James Bond. In his autobiography he describes how he led expeditions all over the world and became the first person to travel to both poles on land. He tells of how he discovered the lost city of Ubar in Oman and attempted to walk solo and unsupported to the North Pole - the expedition that cost him several fingers, and very nearly his life. His most recent challenge was scaling the north face of the Eiger, one of the most awesome mountaineering challenges in the world. Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes OBE, 3rd Baronet, looks back on a life lived at the very limits of human endeavour.

Top 100 Books Reviewer

I first heard of this book whilst watching an episode of Top Gear that had Sir Ranulph Fiennes as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. Through listening to what he had to say I thought this would be an interesting read and went ahead and bought it.

This book really is one adventure after another and time after time demonstrates not only the limits that the human body can be pushed to but the love one person can have for another. It is little wonder that Sir Ranulph has been used as a motivation speaker as his experiences and determination are something that are beyond imagination.

A highly recommended read! Insightful, funny and inspiring!

 Move over Indina Jones

If you're a fan in the Indianian Jones movies than read this book as it's the nearest anyone will get to the real thing. Sir Ranulph Fiennes is either insane or just has no concept of fear. Every adventure he's undertaken makes each page a treat to read. If you're bored with Dan Brown and the like then this book cannot be recommend enough. Go through the SAS trials, the river expeditions, the Polar adventures and more.
Way this book is written also makes it fun to read as the author makes light of his near death experiences and introduces the reader to a life that is full of danger and massive bravery.
A much recommended read

Awe inspiring! What a guy - what a book.

Just read Mad, bad and Dangerous to know. I tend not to read a huge number of books but this book held my interest and made for top notch holiday reading. This book made me laugh out loud and bought tears to my eyes with sadness. The most fascinating and most enjoyable book I have read to-date.

 Best book ever!

Having read the earlier edition of Ran's biography (Living Dangerously), this is by far the best, probably because he's done even more stuff since then.. I cannot recommend this book enough. Read this if you want a new hero, then read his biography of Captain Scott if you need another one! Ran's life should be taught in schools, he makes me proud to be English!
