Charlaine Harris' The Southern Vampire Mysteries, including novels Dead Until Dark, Definitely Dead and Dead And Gone are currently causing a massive stir, none more so than on TV where the HBO adaptation appears as True Blood, adapted by American Beauty and Six Feet Under scribe, Alan Ball. However, it's Harris' A Touch Of Dead, a collection of Sookie Stackhouse-starring short stories, that has us got us tangled up in a blood frenzy!

Sookie Stackhouse enjoys her job as a cocktail waitress in Merlotte's, a small-town bar in small-town Bon Temps, deep in Louisiana. She's funny and pretty and, thanks to her grandmother, she's very well-mannered, but since not many people truly appreciate her ability to read their minds, the guys haven't exactly been beating down her door... And then along comes Bill - tall, dark and handsome - and Sookie can't 'hear' a word he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting all her life for. Of course, Bill has a disability of his own: fussy about his food, not into suntans, bit of a night person: yep, Bill is a vampire. But at least now Sookie knows there *are* guys she can date who won't worry about her catching them thinking about other women... And that's going to make Sookie's life really interesting!

The bestselling author of preceeding novel Dead And Gone collects every Sookie short story ever written in one volume including "Fairy Dust", "One Word Answer" and "Dracula Night" from Dead To The World, as well as "Lucky" from All Together Dead and From Dead To Worse short "Giftwrap." Fans of the telepathic waitress caught up in some of the most witty, amiable and enthralling southern gothic ever written should put down their crucifixes, throw out the garlic and leave their windows open. It's less a case of you getting your teeth into this one than the other way around!

This is a collection of 5 Sookie Stackhouse short stories, mainly back stories that didnt make it into the novels. These stories are "Fairy Dust" , concerning the fairy triplets and explains the death of Claudette, sister to Claud and Claudine. "Dracula Night", finds the normally cool and calm Eric in hero worship mode, anticipating the apperance of the worlds most famous vampire. Thirdly there is "One Word Answer" which focuses on the death of Sookies cousin Hadley. The fourth story "Lucky " finds Sookie and her house guest Amelia in investigative mode. Finally in "Gift Wrap" set the Christmas before the happenings of Dead and Gone" Sookie encounters an uknown and injured Werewolf, who's set to give her a Christmas gift she wont forget. Overall this is a nice litte book with illustration and easily read in a short time. I did not find it as compelling as the novels and feel this may be for serious fans of Sookie Stackhouse.

Top 100 Books Reviewer

I bought this book because I am a huge fan of Charlaine Harris and her Sookie Stackhouse books. A Touch Of Dead, is a book made up of five short story's that didn't make it into the books. Each story is detailed and gives you a better insight into Sookie's life and Charlaine's world. This book is defiantly worth buying for any Sookie Stackhouse fan, I would definanly recommend this.
