The first volume of A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. Now a major Sky Atlantic TV series from HBO, featuring a stellar cast. Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plot, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men! all will play the Game of Thrones. Winter is coming!

 Absolutely Amazing

George R.R.Martin has opened up an amazing new Fantasy World. The characters are complex and plots twist and turn. Just wish he would hurry up and write more. For this price it's an absolute Bargain!

A Must read if I ever read one!

I was browsing a website rating the top 10 fantasy series which placed song of fire and ice as no.1 ahead of lord of the rings (3) and harry potter(4). While I do not agree with some of the choices, this definately deserves its spot. Despite having dragons, mages and the undead, the influence on the story is very rare, especially in this 1st book. Instead you get a very realistic view on the ugly side of war and a number very real character who rarely do what you would expect. Warning: this is by no means a hollywood feelgood story!
