Life in Emond's Field has been pretty boring for Rand Al'Thor and his friends until a strange young woman arrives in their village. Moraine is an Aes Sedai, a magician with the ability to wield the One Power, and she brings warnings of a terrible evil awakening in the world. That very night, the village is attacked by bloodthirsty Trollocs - a fearsome tribe of beast-men thought to be no more than myth. As Emond's Field burns, Moraine and her warrior-guardian help Rand and his companions to escape. But it is only the beginning of their troubles. For Moraine believes Rand Al'Thor is the Dragon Reborn, and that he is fated to unite the world against the rising darkness and lead the fight against a being so powerful and evil it is known simply as the Dark One. Part One of the opening volume to Robert Jordan's classic Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World continues with TO THE BLIGHT, also available in March 2003.

Good start to a great series!

This book starts off a little slow but its world and characters gripped me from the beginning, so I kept on reading. The author describes things with a lot of detail (sometimes a little too much) which makes the setting rather lively. This book is a great start to an even greater series of fantasy books that I'd definitely consider one of the better fantasy books around.

Great series but first book a bit boring

I should say that the rating is for the series overall rather than the first book. I found Eye of the World very boring and hard to get into but about half-way through things start to pick up and the sequels to this are undoubtedly EPIC!

If you can be bothered with reading something like 400 pages worth of walking through woods you'll end up at the good stuff.

 WARNING! Seriously addictive

Fantasy fiction can sometimes confuse the reader with too many characters or worlds that are not fully developed or poorly explained. Jordan's work is the complete antithesis to this style. Immerse yourself in the Wheel of Time series and you won't regret it. Epic in its scope, the different threads are woven so tightly that the stories and character developments are exciting, moving, at times frightening and above all believable in the context of the story. Jordan holds the readers' interest in what happens to Rand al'Thor and others from the Two Rivers. This is as good as it gets - fantasy fiction at its absolute perfected state. Wonderful.

 EPIC!

Without a doubt this series by Robert Jordan are the best books i have ever read. Original, imaginative and just so immersive once you pick it up you wont want to put it down. Currently im on the fourth book and am still as addicted and eager to carry on since the first book. If your looking for something to fill up your reading time for a couple of months start with this book!

 Couldn't put it down

As soon as I started to read this book as with most books it takes a while for things to get going, but once everything started to happen I couldn't part with the book i just needed to finish the book as it was pulling me in all the way through.

I would recommend this book as it is one of the best series of books to date, and only a few other series of books come close to the intricate and well thought out world that is The Wheel Of Time.
