WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR AND A READER'S GUIDE Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance caused a sensation when it was first published in 1974.The story of the narrator, his son Chris and their month-long motorcycle odyssey from Minnesota to California profoundly affected an entire generation. Both personal and philosophical, this book is a compelling study of relationships, values, madness and, eventually, enlightenment.

This is a top three book for me. Certainly different from other books I've read, very accessable, totally absorbing and not without questions about the hero's parental care values. It's a road trip with a difference - for a start you're more isolated on a sickle - no conversations with other passengers while you move from town to town. That allows some deep thought. The thinking relates to his maintenace manual, god and his inner demons\angels. It's also an adventure he shares with his son - well meaning, I'm sure, but I worry for the lad's welfare. A story about the boy's inner journey would be interesting too - one I long pondered on my second reading. This book will change the way you look at bits of your life and flood into your dreams, at least while you're reading it.
