Evacuees attended my village school in Wales back in 1942 when I was 6yrs old and apart from the fact that having arrived from Liverpool their accents were different from mine I didn't give them a second thought. What an eyeopener this book has been stating the trauma felt by so many children, not so much at leaving their homes but returning to them after the war.I am so glad I have read it and am now about to start reading Stranger in the House by the same author being accounts of the husbands and fathers returning from the war as recounted by their women.i
