The Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller. Although Jodie is only eight years old, she is violent, aggressive, and has already been through numerous foster families. Her last hope is Cathy Glass...Cathy, an experienced foster carer, is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Jodie's challenging behaviour has seen off five carers in four months but Cathy decides to take her on to protect her from being placed in an institution. Jodie arrives, and her first act is to soil herself, and then wipe it on her face, grinning wickedly. Jodie meets Cathy's teenage children, and greets them with a sharp kick to the shins. That night, Cathy finds Jodie covered in blood, having cut her own wrist, and smeared the blood over her face. As Jodie begins to trust Cathy her behaviour improves. Over time, with childish honesty, she reveals details of her abuse at the hands of her parents and others. It becomes clear that Jodie's parents were involved in a sickening paedophile ring, with neighbours and Social Services not seeing what should have been obvious signs. It's clear that Josie needs psychiatric therapy, but instead Social Services take Jodie away from her, and place her in a residential unit. Although the paedophile ring is investigated and brought to justice, Jodie's future is still up in the air. Cathy promises that she will stand by her no matter what - her love for the abandoned Jodie is unbreakable.

Dont worry this book is not just another tale of a harsh childhood, this is the gripping story of a child so disturbed by abuse that a tear is never far away from the readers eye. Written by a a truly amazing, kind and patient woman, this book tells the story from a foster carers view. Heart breaking and thought provoking, have the tissues at the ready!

An eye-opener to the real world. It's so gripping that you will not be able to put it down. I have never been so touched by a story but shows what goes on, and also the extra-ordinary people there are to support such children! I would suggest any one to have a read of this - but really it is not for the faint hearted, very graphic at points and very upsetting.

Well written, a thoroughly satisfying read that will leave you thinking afterwards. Not just another traumatic childhood tale, this one really stands out among the top three out there at the moment. Amazing writer. Her best book to date.

O M G, when i first started reading this book, i thought what a nasty wicked child jodie was, BUT i was so wrong, she was so tormented and affected it seems impossible for her to ever get her life back, what a truly remarkable, patient and caring human being cathy glass is, and what a sham social services are, there are too many ill treated children left in bad homes with bad parents, no wonder there is so much crime these days, if kids are left with evil parents they grow up not knowing any different, i think all social services workers should read this book and take note whats going on under their very noses, cathy i admire you, cos i know i could never have done what you managed to do, well done, best wishes, and jodie, every happiness for your future you truly deserve every bit of it, missmolly, brighton

Brilliantly written, this sad true story is about a foster carer's attempt to help an abused girl called JODIE to become somewhat normal,i wish there were more people like CATHY GLASS.
This book is very touching as tells us of Jodies problems such as learning difficulties, coping with sickening sexual abuse and a violent temper.
Jodie is overweight and oblivious to feelings, both her's and those of others, but she cleary is hiding a sweet girl in there somewhere.
This damaged girl comes out with things she doesn't even realize is wrong, demands things she can't understand that cannot be given and gets aggressive when questioned about her behaviour.
However, underneath the darkness there is this lovely girl that shows herself at times when all seems lost, but when other personalities come through her,it's clear her problems are a lot worse than first feared, leaving you wondering if there's any hope for her or if the sick perverts she used to live with have done too much damage.
I shall certainly look out for more titles from Carthy Glass after reading this brilliant but sad book. It will make you angry, but amusing moments will make you smile and the end just might make you cry,i'm not too proud to admit my eyes were tearing up near the end of this gripping true story about the lovely Jodie,a girl so very damaged.
