3 A very good read but not in depth enoughnobbey | 27/08/2008 | See all nobbey's reviews (9)I enjoyed reading Ewan and Charleys' account of their trip from London to New York but it left me a little disappointed.Books that accompany TV programmes often go more into the details of the subject than the limited time the TV episodes allow. The TV series was 14 weeks travelling condensed to 9 one hour episodes (including 2 for preparation). I expected the book to fill in some of the gaps that had to be edited out, but found it to be pretty much just a re-telling in print or the TV programmes. After reading it i know no more about their trip than i did having watched them on TV.I also found it a little self obsessive of Charley and Ewan. Here they were, on the trip of a lifetime, with careers that allowed them to indulge in such things, but they seemed to spend a lot of time writing about how they missed their families or were in a bad mood. I'd rather have read more about some of the incidents that didn't make it on to TV than read about how Charley was having another paddy or how Ewan couldn't believe he was a squillion miles from Eve and missing her.Don't get me wrong, it's a good read and accompaniment to the TV series, but don't expect to learn anymore about what happened than you already know.
