When I look in the mirror, I know that I came from dirt. I came from the streets. Both of my parents are drug addicts. I lived in cars, motels, in the back of people's houses. But now I look in the mirror and realize that I'm somebody. Everybody in this world can have goals and dreams, and they can achieve those goals and dreams if they work hard enough. I came from nothing and I've done it. I smile every time I talk about it. So begins the inspirational tale of Jacob 'Tito' Ortiz, aka the 'Huntington Beach Bad Boy'. Ortiz made his mixed martial arts debut as an amateur at UFC 13. He wasn't interested in being paid or getting a contract -- he just wanted 'to kick somebody's ass'. Berfore long he was fighting for the UFC Middleweight (200 pound) title, and battled it out in an historic contest with prodigy Frank Shamrock. Ortiz lost, but the fight shaped the future of the division for the next several years to come. The Middleweight title was renamed the Light Heavyweight title and Ortiz again took the belt, successfully defending it five times in the next three years.A controversial opponent, Ortiz remains one of the most exciting Ultimate Fighting Championship fighters to watch. This is the outspoken, no-holds-barred story of his colourful life and career.

 As you'd expect

I would agree with the before reviewer about Ortiz and his excuses in his career and his book. But as for questioning his quality as a fighter - i would not call Rashad Evans mediocre, he is now fighting for a title and KO'd Chuck Liddell and Ortiz only drew the fight because he lost a point for grabbing the fence, he also beat the current champion.

Ok, but not the best MMA book...

Im a huge MMA/Fight fan. I dont want to sound brash but I know my stuff. I got this book sent to me from a friend in the states and it took me about 3 days to finish. If you want a good "rags to riches" story, then this book will deliver. But if you want the truth and an honest story, dont buy this book. I wont give anything away, but to all those who are just casual MMA fans, dont buy into Tito's story. This book will make you think that Ortiz is the most best and honest guy since Jesus himself! Ortiz has an excuse for everything he has been accused of in his sporting life, he will make you think he is perfect. In a nutshell, Ortiz once was a young, hungry, determined and dominating fighter. He started to go down hill and as expected with any sporting star, if you lose, you lose perks also! He wasnt being given main event fights and wasnt being treated as a top athelete and this bothered Ortiz. But afterall, he was no longer a top Athelete... what does he expect. And there is this fued with Dana White (President of UFC). He seems very caught up on White, but what was White supposed to do, keep Ortiz in the title picture although he wasnt performing to his best? Keep him at the top just for the shire fact he was a name? The answers are NO! Ortiz only has himself to blame for what has happened in the later part of his career. If he wants to be at the top again, he must earn his spot like the rest of the hard working MMA fighters that grace and give our sport such a good and hard workng name. He needs to be professional in his manner and fall on his sword when it is needed once in a while. There is a phrase that bodes well with Ortiz, "To be the best, you have to beat the best" Ortiz should read that one! If anyone still wants to talk Ortiz's praise, what his fight with medocre Rashard Evans!

 Inspiring

Inspiring story about how a guy who starts out with everything going against him to reaching the top and turns out being a decent bloke! A good interesting read especially for fans of Tito!

A must have for all Mixed Martial Arts fans, especially if you are a fan of the legendary 'Huntingdon Beach Bad Boy' Tito Ortiz.
A great insight into the life and upbringing of an MMA star.
