The Knights Templar were the most powerful military religious order of the Middle Ages. Formed to protect the Holy Land, they participated in the Crusades and rapidly gained wealth, lands and influence and were answerable to none save the Pope himself. In addition to their military reputation, they were innovators in banking, exploration and engineering. After the loss of the Holy Land, they fell spectacularly from grace and were arrested no charges of heresy, homesexuality and devil worship. Martin's history explores the truth behind these legendary figures.

A well written & unbiased account of the Templars

The Knights Templar have interested me for sometime after first hearing about their revelations on a Radio 4 programme. This is the very first book I have bought about the Order and thankfully it was a good choice & to be honest it has deepened my interest even further.
Sean Martin has set the book out very well for a novice like myself, at times I have researched certain personalities that are mentioned in the book (on the Internet) to give me a clearer understanding of exactly who he is talking about .
The book doesn't get bogged down in the nitty gritty but skips along nicely informing you of the revelations & exploits of the Order through the centuries.
A nice touch at the rear of the book under the bibliography is the list of Orthodox & Speculative authors, I will definitely use the latter when choosing my next Templar book.
