Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, still trapped in his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack. Against his better judgement he arrives at the shack on a wintery afternoon and faces up to his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, 'Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?' The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

The Greatest Book I Have Read!

This is truly a great thought provoking book. I have bought several copies and handed them out to friends and family and everyone has thanked me for giving them the best read of their lives so far! I am not a religious type at all. I describe myself as agnostic, but what this book describes is what I believe in. So very well written. Buy it you won't regret it!

Spell binding and beautiful beyond words

This book is the most profound and beautiful read ever, I was completely and utterly overwhelmed. It moved me in ways I never thought possible. I have been a lifelong atheist and to set foot in the Christian faith and read this book as I search for God just left me emotionally shattered and filled with the unshakable knowing that it was meant for me..........just like it could be for anyone. It was a stepping stone for me and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Beautifully written and delicately delivered. The most important book Ive ever read.

What an amazing read! I am not much of a bookworm myself and it is testament to a book when i even finish it. I read this in 2 days. The shack takes you on a journey of discovery and i found myself looking at god from a completly different perspective.

I highly reccommend it!

 Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

This has got to be one of the best if not the best book I've ever read. It's so inspiring and gives the reader a wonderful insight into who God is. Congratulations to William Young for getting such an important message across to Christians and non-Christians alike. I was so pleased to hear that it was the number one best selling book in the states in 2008.

 Thought provoking

I read this book, expecting it to be the literary equivalent of "Christian Rock"; however, from the first chapter I was hooked. The author grabbed me in a place that was so close to my heart - as a father and led me on a journey peppered with tears and laughter. This book has challenged my preconceptions regarding the person of God. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to Christian and Non-christian alike.
