From the author of "Notes from a Small Island" and "The Lost Continent" comes this humorous report on his walk along the Appalachian Trail. The Trail is the longest continuous footpath in the world, and it snakes through some of the wildest and most spectacular landscapes in America.

 Great!

I spent many days on the train to work reading this book, and even when there was tons of noise and people pushing past me, I was so engrossed I didn't even notice.

It's a great book, funny, witty and full of adventure. The way Bill tells his story is brilliant, and of course because the author himself experienced what he's writing about, it makes it all come alive, a true account of his great break from the conveniences of modern life.

A story to convince a lot of people out there to 'get away from it all' if only for a few weeks..

 Fantastic Intro to Bryson

This was my first introduction to the writings of Bill Bryson. It is a fantastic book and the way the author involves the reader is brilliant. This book has a nostalgic feel-good factor to it. A wholesome enjoyment. It basically follows the adventures of the author and a long time, but forgotten, friend, Katz, on their travels up the AT on the eastern seaboard. A journey with no hotels, well not many!, no mod cons, well again not many!!, just two guys and nature, well wilderness!, one who clearly enjoys it more than the other!
