It's a cold November night, and DS Dennis Milne is waiting to kill three unarmed men. Cynical and jaded, Milne earns money on the side by doing what he does best: punishing the bad guys. But he's been set up. This time, instead of shooting drug dealers, he kills two customs officers and an accountant. And the hunter becomes the hunted.

This book is brilliant, it was the second book i read by simon kernick and in both books i have been gripped by the stories, it was ceaseless to surprise me, the story genuinely shocked me becuase somehow it seemed so real, my attention was constantly locked in the story.

 fantastic british writer

im now on my fourth simon kernick novel but as the previous reviewer read the latest ones severed and relentless first. simon kernick is a exciting and hugely believable writer, his stories hold such excitement and i cannot wait for the next book to arrive. im a seasoned james patterson reader but lately have felt his last few books with co-authors are being churned out at such a rate they are not up to the standard he started with. i wouldnt mind being a pound or two behind him though. if you enjoy a good thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat and havent got any urgent matters to attend to give kernick a go you wont regret.

Standard thriller, but with interesting characters and thought provoking,.

Fans of the more recent simon kernick releases are not so much in similar territory with this one, not as fast paced as Relentless and Severed however more believable, even though this book hasnt got the 'unputdownableness' of other simon kernick work i still feel that this is a stronger book and that made the twists work better.

I think i must have missed something here as this book has had glowing reviews everywhere??? I enjoyed the book alright but didn't love it like i hoped i would. I think the plot was perhaps unusual in the way that the lead character was a baddie and with little or no moral code!!! I found him selfish and couldn't quite root for him as i simply didn't like him. Maybee im a bit old fashioned and still like a good old hero:-)
