This is the indispensable compendium of popular misconceptions, misunderstandings and common mistakes culled from the hit BBC show, "QI". The noticeably stouter "QI Book of General Ignorance" sets out to show you that a lot of what you think you know is wrong. If, like Alan Davies, you still think the Henry VIII had six wives, the earth has only one moon, that George Washington was the first president of the USA, that Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, that the largest living thing is a blue whale, that Alexander Graeme Bell invented the telephone, that whisky and bagpipes come from Scotland or that Mount Everest is the world's tallest mountain, then there are at least 200 reasons why this is the book for you.

Pretty boring read. Some expected gems inside, but the majority is some irrelevant stuff about UK-related things I have never thought about (and for a good reason). Examples?

"Which organization invented Quaker Oats?", "What illness do British doctors treat most often?", "Which aeroplane won the Battle of Britain?", "When did the last survivor of the Crimean war die?", "What nationality was the Duke of Wellington?", "Who invented the Penny Post?", "Who was Britain's first Prime Minister?", etc, etc, etc...

 Compulsive reading

Just like the TV show, this book is filled with fascinating tidbits on everything you can think of. It's amusingly written and will make you question lots of things you take for granted.

For example, "What's the tallest mountain in the world?" Nope, it's not Everest. "How many wives did Henry VIII have?" No, it's not six.

Highly recommended.
