I have only watched 3 episodes of The Vampire Diaries series and I was told it was really different and that people who loved the series weren't too keen on the books. I can understand why, as there are big differences and I know that from only watching a few episodes but I seperated the books from the series and read it like it was a totally different story.
I throughly enjoyed it and having seen the series was actually nice because I liked having a really clear view in my mind of the characters.
At first I wasn't sure, with Elena 'Queen of the school' reminded me of mean girls and I didn't warm to Elenas character until quite far in and I'm reading the reunion now, still loving it and I love all the characters. Even Damon, though that took a long time!

its a ok story if not abit weird to be honest! i found it hard to get into! i read upto shadowed souls or nighfall and got bored with them. i absouluty love the tv show so these books were a big dissapointment. the story line is not the same as the tv show.. but still if your a fan of the vampire diaries you may like the books so still give them a shot.

i am a huge fan of the vampire diaries and after watching the tv series i thought i would give the books a go. It took me 2 days to read this one, i couldn't put it down at all. Was a lot better than what i expected. A MUST for all vampire diaries fans.

when i started these books i found them hard to get into as they are so different from the tv show, the characters and the plot.i,ve read them all and am waiting for the next installment of this series which hopefully is in march.unfortunatly i still prefer the tv show but will read the book to see how it ends.

I saw this and the second Volume (first 4 books) in a local shop and thought I'd get them because they were quite cheap and wasn't too fussed on what they'd turn out like. Turns out, I'm thrilled with the result!!
Months later...I've read all seven books so far and eagerly awaiting the release of the newest one.
I absolutely LOVE these books and the TV series! If your a fan of Twilight or any sort of fantasy sci-fi type book, you should definately read this series! 5*

Having watched and enjoyed the series, I bought myself the set of book(s). I was a little disappointed at first, as the only thing in common was the characters names, the storylines were completely different. Having said that though, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book(s) and have even bought copies for friends and family. Would recommend you try them. One downer though, have got to wait until March '11 for Book 7!

  It's okay...

I got this book yesterday morning and I finished it 12.10am this morning! I could not put it down, and it's been a while since I've had a book like that.
I bought all of the books after being hooked on the tv series, but what I will say is that it does differ from the show, so don't expect it to be the same. I don't know if the tv tie-in ones are different or not, but this is fab in its own right!

You can picture everything happening as you're reading if you allow your mind to wander!
