I liked it overall but I did find it slow and boring in some parts. It seemed to me L.J. Smith just filled some pages up by going on and on about something that I didn't really care about. Overall it's an entertaining story and the ending of the second story has got me looking forward to reading the second book!

these books are a great read!

Not as good as the series....

I moved onto these books shortly after I had watched the first episode of the series as I was hooked from the first page. But I felt that the story didnt progress as well as I anticipated in the later novels. The characters are a bit two dimensional and I hated how predictable everything was and I even noticed spelling errors in the book! I actively hated the 4th book and I havent even started the 5th yet because I cant bring myself to read the monstrosity. I cant say that I hated the book series as a whole but there is a lot better out there (i.e. the house of night series) and the television series is loads better (albeit with a lot of changes in most for the better) with the characters having more depth and personality to them. I liked the first two books but after that it goes downhill rapidly. Its a good stopgap if you have been bitten with the vampire bug (like myself) and needing to fill the gap between the next Twilight film just dont expect a story that is well written!

So in short this book is a good read. You will enjoy it but you are setting yourself up for a real let down later on with the sequels.

Stop comparing to Twilight! Its amazing!!!

I really wish everyone would stop comparing all vampire books to Twilight, as a major fan of the series I can see why but this book is different than the Twilight Saga. It is amazing in it's own right. I try to read a new book with fresh eyes instead of comparing it, think if you had not read Twilight, would you like it, and I say yes definetly!

I love the character of Elena who could so easily fit into any time or place, she is universal. At first I was annoyed by her bratty attitude and she came accross as 'pampered princess' but as the story progresses and with the arrival of our vampire; Stefan, we see that there is more than meets the eye to Elena. I deeply enjoyed the love that Elena and Stefan share and felt like I was witnessing its strength grow.

The story keeps you guessing with a number of unexpected twists and turns and I love the style that Smith imploys with the extracts of dairy entrys which put you in Elena's mindset and see everything through her eyes.

I loved the errieness that Smith manages to maintain with the Graveyard and the church.

The ending is schocking and I was left reeling and wondering if it could be so, so much so that I had to buy the next one in order to find out!

Take my advice, stop comparing to Twilight, every book you read will probably not live up if you keep doing that, so just look at it as it's own and I promise you will enjoy it and will not be able to stop! :)

I was first pulled into reading the book after seeing the first few episodes of the TV series. Little did I know how much better the books would be! I would highly reccomend the entire series of books to anyone who is interested in vampires, a love story and supernatural events!! Unputdownable!!

I loved all of these book sooooo much!! I think Lisa Smith is a brilliant author and anyone who likes these should definately read her others. The t.v series is good but it doesn't follow the books at all.

Great book and started watching the TV Show recently which although different are ok. I am a massive Twilight Fan and think they are both great storys for fans of the Vamp Novels. You dont have to like just one you can like both. Enjoy
