July 1209: in Carcassonne a young girl is given a mysterious book by her father which he claims contains the secret of the true Grail. Although Alais cannot understand the strange words and symbols hidden within, she knows that her destiny lies in protecting it. It will take great sacrifice and faith to keep the secret of the labyrinth safe - a secret that stretches back thousands of years to the deserts of Ancient Egypt ...July 2005: Alice Tanner stumbles upon two skeletons during an archaeological dig in the mountains outside Carcassonne. Inside the tomb, she feels an overwhelming sense of malevolence and realises that she can somehow understand the ancient words carved into the rock. Too late, Alice discovers she's set in motion a terrifying sequence of events that inextricably binds her destiny with the fate of the Cathars 800 years before.

I recieved this book for xmas and it did take me a while to finish it,(baby to attend to) but now i have i feel like i am missing the constant enjoyment it provided with every page.
the writer makes it easy to agree to the characters actions and i often found my self thinking, thats just what i would have done!
a real gem

i bought this book based on the cover(yes i am that kind of person), then when i decided to read it whilst on holiday i found myself unable to put it down.
the story has to protagonists, one in present day and one in the past. i did not think i would like the jumping from present to past side of the story line, but the author managed to link it well.
i cried, i laughted and my heart ached, i can undoubtedly say that this is my favourite book. a joy to read and with nice short chapters.
a must buy for anyone
