Not all angels are heaven sent. I am one such angel, and I have come to pass judgement on the living, and the dead...A report of a rare and unusual gun - a type favoured by assassins - being smuggled into the country sparks Detective Harry Hole's interest. Then a former WW2 Nazi sympathizer is found with his throat cut. Next, Harry's former partner is murdered. Why had she been trying to reach Harry on the night she was killed? As Harry's investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that the killer is hell-bent on serving his own justice. And while the link between the cases remains a mystery, one thing is certain: he must be stopped.

 amazing reading

It's too bad for all only-english reading people that the two first books about Harry Hole haven't been translated into english. But if you want to start reading, start with this.
By my standards this is by far the best of the 8 books about Harry Hole that has come out so far, though i can hardly wait for number 9 this june seeing as they're all good.
As indicated, this is the 3rd book in the series. The first two are called The Bat Man and The Cockroaches, if you're to translate the titles directly from Norwegian. The order of the rest of the books is:
4. Nemesis
5. The Devil's Star
6. The Redeemer
7. The Snowman
8. The Leopard

The first two books are well worth reading, especially the first. But start with this, and work your way down the list you're going to have a good few hours of exciting reading ahead of you.

Addictive Reading - Nesbo reels you in a treat!

I read the Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson and needed a new fix. The man branded 'the next Stieg Larsson' seemed perfect.

I wasn't disappointed either. The Redbreast, the first of the Harry Hole series published in the UK, was compelling throughout. Jo Nesbo builds up a story just as well, or, dare I say it, possibly better than Larsson does.

His descriptive story telling puts you in the middle of the action and the tale he has to tell is very good. Lot's of twists and turns and when you think you understand the plot and have all the answers, Nesbo delivers another curve ball.

Brilliant story. My only negative was that after all the build up, all the twists, it finished rather abruptly but then that maybe just down to me not wanting it to finish!

 Good involved thriller

I read this after The Snowman - you should read it first and work through series. I much preferred this to The Snowman.

 The redbreast!

It was lacking so much and I think quite a lot was missing in its translation...I will stick with Robbert Goddard in future.
