Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars King doing what he does best

After apparently spending some 20 years on the drawing board, Under The Dome is finally upon us. Perhaps you're already familiar with the premise - At some point in the very near future, Small Town America is isolated by an inexplicable force field, leaving the inhabitants at the mercy of the increasingly power crazed elected officials; not to mention trying to find out what has actually caused the Dome in the first place.

In most professional reviews you might have read you will have no doubt seen it being compared with The Stand; and although there are some similarities, the socio-political themes prevalent in Under The Dome put a heavily altered slant on the proceedings. You may also be pleased to hear that the Hand of God does not put in an appearance anywhere; although the critics among you may find the Dome, in itself, to be a Deus ex Machina, albeit applied in reverse.

As a long-term Stephen King reader (and fan) it is perhaps hard to give a truly subjective conclusion, so I will leave you with this - A very entertaining insight into the psychology and subsequent events of a town suddenly excluded from the rest of the world, brought to life by a fantastic army of realised voices.

I have read Stephen King for many years and would put him in my top 5 favourite novelists, I was disapointed at a few of his more recent books (Duma Key being one) with this I was thrilled to see King returning to what he does best. This is an addictive novel that I couldnt put down and finished in one sitting. I love long books as I feel the charecters are given time to mature and become more real to the reader. I wont give away any spoilers but I was surprised at the ending!

I am an avid fan of all of King's books though found this one to be a let-down. Neither characters or plotline kept me engaged and it was a struggle to finish it to be honest. Hopefully his next novel will see him back on top form.

Took this one on holiday with me as a cosy beach read and ended up devouring the pages with every waking minute. The story is so engrossing i remember more of the book than the holiday!
I recommed this book to all as it was a pleasure to read and mostly a pleasure to finish. The only downside is that once it's finished you wonder what you can possibly do with your time that is as fullfiling.

This was indeed the longest of his books I have ever read. It grabbed you at the first and kept you there till page 877!! The first 3/4 of the book is a mixture of scene setting, character building and story telling, slowly climbing towards the final inevitable King crescendo. The last part is the slow but gripping run towards finding out who or what the Dome exists for! A must read. Fabulous book!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It had me hooked from the first page. Even though this book tops 800 pages Stephen has filled the book with action straight from the first page. I Would recommend this to anyone!

The book Under the Dome, is a long book, and with most really long word-y books that ramble on I usally discard after a couple of chapters but this one is different, it's kind of weird but entertaining, it really passes the time well, especially I found reading it on journeys. I am not finnished it yet but I have gotten pretty far and if you resist temptation to look up spoliers on the net like I have it will have you hooked. If like long books, a good story, a mystery book or Stephen King novels buy it it is worth it. But if you are put off the idea of it being a horror novel it isn't, this is my first Stephen King book and the way its going it wont be my last.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars brilliant
