I bought this book to read on holiday and finished it in two days, I simply could not put it down, This is my first time reading a David Nicholls book and cant wait to read more, His style of writing is superb. I felt incredibly moved and affected by it and could not stop thinking about it for days after I finished it. One of the most powerful and fantastic books I have read in a long time, I would highly recommend it. FABULOUS!!!!

This book was great from the first page. A unlikely pair bonded together by one encounter but it's great to see their relationship grow into something more profound. A really great love story that I kept thinking about for ages after I even finished it.

i wasn't sure about the start of the book, about how a whole story can come out of spending one night together...however, i really enjoyed reading this book and absolutely loved the characters - i was gutted at the end and went thru some sort of weird grieving process lol....

I've had this book on my 'to read' list for months and finally got around to reading it. I'd heard such good reviews about it and it certainly lived up to them! The concept is refreshing and the characters are lovingly depicted. I particularly enjoyed how each chapter progressed so quickly and kept the story line really pacy. There were at least two moments in the story where my mouth physically dropped open, which just goes to show how cleverly written this book truly is! Many readers might feel cheated with the twist but I personally think David Nicolls took a risk to provide something a little unexpected and different to the norm and it paid off to create a compelling, enticing and simply lovely read!

I'm not a big reader but then my friend suggested I read One Day. And I'm glad I did - within the first few pages I was hooked. Great story line, and I really like the way it's written and could imagine myself in the same place the characters were. For me, it's one of those need to finish books, and several times I was actually talking to the pages with my reaction, which must mean I was really 'into' it. I would recommend people to read, happy, funny, sad, realistic, truthful and brilliant.

this book was amazing. it took me weeks before I could start reading another book! I think the ending is a shame and was disappointing but then again maybe if the ending wasnt the way it is i wouldnt have thought about it so much. I laughed and cried. enjoyed the author and have started reading his 'starter for ten' hope this is just as good!

  Inspiring, motivating and captivating

After watching One Day at the cinema, I simply had to read the book, and it was so much better than the film. This is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read and there is a quote towards the end of the book about living life to the fullest which has stuck in my head for weeks afterwards. You won't be able to put this down once you've started reading it, truly inspiring!!

I thought the story was rather strange, there was no meaning to it, it was just 2 people's lives over the course of 20 years... and once one thing happend it quickly changed in the next chapter, hard to keep up with but, i still loved it, emma reminded me alot of myself, and she was inspiring. I loved how they got their time together.. hate that emma ..........(SPOILER)

Dies... its so confusing, it happens so quickly... but still.. i loved the book .

A true classic, I feared this has been overhyped by the media, but this book is just fantastic. I am a big fan of Nick Hornby and this takes a style not far away and reads wonderfully. Gripped from the outset to the last page and true masterpiece. One of the few books to have blown me away.

  Inexplicably awful

Sorry, I know everyone else seems to think this is the best thing ever, but not for me. A potentially interesting idea spoiled by stock characters behaving badly in predictably irritating ways. Ignore this book, go read "Starter for ten" which is lovely
