New paperback edition published to coincide with the major motion picture. Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

 Perfect literature

This work is outstanding. I have not been so captivated by a book as I was by this one. An absolute must read. Character development, depth of plot, the pace of writing and the overall story are just fantastic.

Has description of rape and violent sexual abuse in there, but it is done very well and is critical to the characters and plot development.

Some may be put of by the start of the novel with Swedish finance and the legal case, but it is such an important introduction to the main character that the book would not work without it.

 A great read

At first the book is a little slow but not for long before you are dragged by the scruff of your neck into a great plot, fabulous characters that are well developed and you feel like you know them personally! you will simply have to see the film and read then next two books after reading this one! buy it and read it you will be pleased you did!

 Great Book

This is a fantastic book in every respect. The characters, the story were beautifully put together. The start is slow but i think it is needed to fully develop the characters and the background which nicely falls together later on.
If you like a good thriller, this is a book not to be missed. Just put my order in for the next two books in the series, and i am hoping for more of the same.

I enjoyed this book so much I ordered the next two and I have just started the third one. I found it a bit confusing at first, (still do to some extent) as it is set in a country I am not familiar with and the places are not known to me, so when a character goes from one place to the next, I have no reference point. I would not say it was impossible to put the book down, but the pages certainly turned. I did not expect the story to go the way it did and really enjoyed the switch around. Well worth the money.

Since I red and saw the Silence of the Lambs this is the next great story I've seen ...and I can't wait to read the book as well!
