I started watching the TV series of The Vampire Diaries, when I found out there were books too, I just had to get them! The books are very different to the TV series however they are all a great read! I couldn't put the books down once starting to read and I had to buy them all, highly recommend!

  All wrong

I tried so hard to like this book, I read Volumes 1-4 and loved them and wanted more so I bought The Return Trilogy and i'm so disapointted. Not only is it difficult to follow - I found myself re-reading paragraphs trying to establish what's going on - it's really different to the first 4 books, characters seem different and I didn't feel as close to them as in the previous stories, and Stefan keeps addressing Elena as 'Lovely love' and 'Lovely little love' which I just couldn't handle!
It's just all wrong.

yes the weird storyline continues... hard to get into and understand. NOTHING like the show.. alot of people get confused with the books and the show but they are two seperate story lines.. tbh if this was the story line for the show i dunno if id actually watch it....

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book after reading the previous 2, they're extremely addictive!
In this one, without spoiling everything, an awful lot happens to Elena and her friends and just will everything to be okay.
I loved this book and got through it in about 2 days! I couldn't put it down!

this is a must read. if you have read the previous 2 books then you know how addictive they are...in this story you find elena has powers of her own.she loves stefan so much, but you do see how she is drawn to damon..again all the gang are here to help her matt, bonnie and meredith..another great story by l. j. smith....cant wait to start reading book 6......

I LOVE Vampire Diaries!! This book is soo fantastic in so many ways! The way characters are described is excellent down to the very last detail, the way the narrative changes from person to person and sometimes its no-one! L.J Smith has done an amazing job of writing this book! The only disappointment I found about this one, compared to the first 4, was that this one was a little harder to keep track of what was happening and it was a little confusing. Otherwise, AMAZING book! I am a Twilight fan, and recommend this to any other Twilight fan out there!! These are amazing books and the series is just as good! Can't wait for the next one to be released!! 5*

  The best Vampire Diaries yet!!!!!

I really loved the first two double duo installements of the Vampire Diaries so of course I wanted to read this follow up, and I was not disappointed!!!

It is a little more edger than the last two, with more dark and seductive elements to it which I found fit further into the Gothic theme of the books. For fans there is more adventures with Meridith, Matt, Bonnie, Elena, Damon and Stefan and of course the regulars such as Caroline and a welcome bigger appearence from Mrs.Flowers (Stefan's Landlady).

It is to note though, that although I, myself, love Elena and Stefan together, his absence from most of the book allows for the relationship between Elena and Damon to grow and develop. Having believed like Elena, that Damon is not as much of the bad guy as he makes himself out to be, this book helps to shed light on this instinct and investigate it further.

With the appearence of two new evil and sinister characters set on destroying Fell's church, Damon's inner struggle with evil and good is played upon heavily in this book and it is not as simple as choosing a side...

I welcomed the refreshing look on the evil bad boy Damon and his struggle with his feelings toward Elena too. Without spoiling anything, whether Damon feels for Elena is purely beacuse she is something he can not get or that she is his little brothers vs. that he may actaully want more than just her blood are brought to light and a sensitive side of Damon is shown but not without consequences.

I would go as far as to say, that while the first two double installements were not really for adults, the shift to more adult matters in this book and hopefully the next allows it to be an adult book in my mind.

I Loved it and could not put it down, I can not wait for The Return: Shadow Souls which is out out in May. I have mines pre ordered :).
