I opened the first page of this book and was not sure what to expect....I did not listen to or look to any film reviews, although, I plead guilty to reading the back of the book, no doubt along with others...but thankfully, the information about the story left you wondering.... I found this book from start to finish a poignant, emotional,passionate and childlike naivity perspective of the WWII imprisonment of jews and their young families just about surviving across a barbed wire fence from some one under the employment of the Feurher, himself! I started the book not, at first, realising the use of the language that the children used to describe the visit of 'the Fury' and the 'Out-With'! Bruno, in his boredom and isolation, goes down to the permiter of the fence and befriends a boy, the same age as himself, dressed in striped pyjamas. They strike up a friendship across a fence!
