 A GREAT READ, VERY CREEPY

this is an amazing take on the horror/thriller/vampire/virus/end of the world genre. its beginning is one of the creepiest opening to a book i have ever read. its part 1 of a trilogy and is well worth a read. they are also if you wanted to know making it into a tv series so get ahead of the game and buy it before it goes up in price!

A couple of really haunting images

I really enjoyed the way this book develops. I've heard from some that they felt like it was a screenplay awaiting adaptation. I think that is underselling the quality of the narrative. this story opens with great detail moving between mystery, medical procedural and into the horror and action ending that sets it up for the next one. Really enjoyable, but there are a few scenes I had to read past before I went to sleep, some of the imagery might not let you sleep!

 Got bite

A fast paced and entertaining read with a refreshing take on Vampires. Thankfully it's not a romanticising of Vampires and stays true to their horror origins.

A good take on a tired genre

Top 100 Books Reviewer

In recent times, the vampire genre has pretty much been done to death (pardon the pun). Normally I'd avoid this genre, but seeing as Guillermo Del Toro was involved, and I enjoy his films, I thought I'd give it a shot.
The story itself, part virus outbreak and part gothic vampire, has an excellent balance of chiller, action sequences and vampire mysticism. Some of the in depth biological descriptions echo Del Toro's big screen work (Mimic, Chronos etc.) and there are some quite scary moments early on. My only complaint is that while Ephraim Goodweather and Setrakian's characters get a lot of background, the others are pretty much bystanders. Otherwise, I'd recommend this to any fans of vampire/outbreak stories.
