  Had me in tears!

I took a chance with this book. I've never read one of Khaled Hosseini's books before, and war stories are completely out of my comfort zone. As a general rule, they bore me. This, however, is much more than just a war story. The writing is beautifully descriptive, and it drew me in and made me really care about the characters. By the end of the book I was crying. It's well worth buying.

Wow, this is such a great book. It isn't the kind of book I'd usually buy but I saw the 5 star reviews and thought I'd give it a go. Absolutely unputdownable from the first page - it's moving, inspiring, heartbreaking, all at once. I'm going to get the Kite Runner now. If you haven't read this book, do, it's amazing!

I cannot recomend this book enough, l defy anyone not to be moved by it. I actually shouted out aloud at one part of the book and cried more than l care to mention. Absolutely fantastic and it is written so beautifully. I have just started reading The kite runner which l think is his first novel (back to front l know!) and l can see myseld saying the same about that one as well.

An absolutely phenomenal writer. He gets you not just into the story but into this beautifully developed world that he creates. By the last page you feel that you were one of the characters of the story, not just an observant. It is a truly gritty tale but shows the truth depth of human beauty and the ability to endure and overcome the most horrific of ordeals. He is a MUST read, but trust me...you'll be bawling like a baby from start to finish!

I read the Kite Runner before ATSS and was just captivated by the literary genius that is Mr Hosseni. This novel will bring out your every emotion and you can really feel for the characters and particularly the trials and tribulations they are put through. The ending is perfect and shows that love can defeat all major obstacles in life, especially under Taliban rule in Afghanistan at the time the book is set. Recommended to everyone, absolutely unputdownable!! I dare anyone not to shed a single tear...Khaled Hosseini has a special gift and this book will tug at your heart strings.

What an excellent second (?) novel! Khaled Hosseini is a truly gifted storyteller who has set this novel against the backdrop of Taliban rule in Afghanistan and transports you deep into the heart of a war trodden country. I thought that the Kite Runner would be a hard act to follow, but not so it seems as this novel is every bit as addictive. I can't wait for the next, as other books seem insipid in comparison -Mr Hosseini - you have a fan!!

  Fantastic

Khaled Hosseini is a fantastic story teller and made me feel like I was right there, watching it for myself. I am now going to read his 1st book the Kite Runner, watch this space!

I loved the Kite Runner and have encouraged everyone I know to read it. I will be doing the same with A Thousand Splendid Suns. As with the Kite Runner, it is set in troubled Afghanistan - a country we all know is in turmoil, affected by violence and infighting. Again, as with The Kite Runner, fact is interwoven with fiction. It's horrifying, heart-warming, moving and totally compulsive reading. Khalen Hosseini, in my eyes, can do no wrong and is one of my favourite authors - even after only two books!
