Enter a vanished and unjust world: Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. Where black maids raise white children, but aren't trusted not to steal the silver...There's Aibileen, raising her seventeenth white child and nursing the hurt caused by her own son's tragic death; Minny, whose cooking is nearly as sassy as her tongue; and white Miss Skeeter, home from College, who wants to know why her beloved maid has disappeared. Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny. No one would believe they'd be friends; fewer still would tolerate it. But as each woman finds the courage to cross boundaries, they come to depend and rely upon one another. Each is in a search of a truth. And together they have an extraordinary story to tell...

The best book I have read this year.It gave an insight into racial intolerance in the 60s - almost unbelievable but true. Well done
Kathryn Stockett..Cannot wait for your next book.
This book is my favourite of all time. It used to be Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger but this is out of this world.
Characters are believeable and you really feel for them throughout the whole book. Although its fiction, it is horrible to think that these things actually happened to people.
I think creating suspense is a very hard thing to do in a book, not one that many do well, and this was full of suspense the whole way through.
Ive never actually laughed out loud when reading a book and there were instances where i couldnt stop laughing.
I didnt want to put the book down and stopped reading after a few pages when i got near the end because i didnt want to finish it.
This is a truely absolutely brilliant book. Read. It. Now!!
As a 52 yr old male I was amazed that a) I bought this book and b) just how good it was. Superbly written, totally engaging, sad, wickedly funny and tense right to the end, a brilliant first novel, outstanding. Read it, trust me, you`ll love it.
This is by far the best book I've read this year!! Hard to believe that it is the Authors first ever book!! I couldn't turn the pages quick enough and had it read within 24 hours! At least I now know what book to buy for my friends and family........
This is the very first review I have ever written, which goes some way in showing just how good I thought this book was. It was written in a very easy to read style, with the pages flowing seamlessly together to create an exceptional read. I will remember Miss Skeeter, Milly and Aibileen very fondly in the future. Just a shame it ended when it did - I could've kept on reading for ages yet! Well done Kathryn Stockett - can't wait for your next book.
