This is a collection of short stories unified by the shared experiences and reflections of characters connected to a minor public school. Richard Free comments on a society increasingly in thrall to the cult of celebrity, youth and the belief that things are greener on the other side of the hill. At different stages in their lives alumni, their friends and associates recur and interact. Prominent amongst them are Anthony Edmonds, a boy who turns the tables on the school bully, and Abel Mwenza, who become entangled in the unsavoury politics of a typical African republic. When an outsider is appointed to the Board of Trustees at Holsworthy House determined to force the pace of change at the traditional institution, he is threatened by scandal but helped out by unlikely allies. Will it be enough to throw the paparazzi off the scent? The voracious media has already destroyed the reputation of Sir David Gillespie M.P., the erstwhile school bully! The eighteen interwoven stories have been styled as a comedy and set out to entertain whilst raising issues of post-colonialism, regret at life passing by and dilemmas facing a traditional institution in the modern world.
