4 Don't be put off by the cover or the black page edgesDaveJenkinson | 11/04/2011 | See all DaveJenkinson's reviews (6)I was slightly embarrassed reading this book in public due to the cover and the black edged pages. I felt that people may think I was reading a dark erotic thriller. This book is not in that category though there were numerous sex scenes.I actually really enjoyed the story and was sorry to finish the book. The characters were very real and even though much of the action took place in the early 1800s I still enjoyed it. Generally I don't go in for books set in the older days and I certainly don't seek out love stories. I read the book through a book club. The blurb and the cover art work put me off but I decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected.Alchemy is used to explain where the "potion" that yields immortality came from. The character that gives people immortality is intriguing. The main character Lanore (Lanny) goes through a great transformation from a Puritan to a Courtesan. It was an engaging journey.
