Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, seductive cloth as her brother. Imprisoned for eons by their mother, the Scribe Virgin, she finally frees herself - only to face a devastating injury. Manuel Manello, MD, is drafted by the Brotherhood to save her as only he can - but when the human surgeon and the vampire warrior meet, their two worlds collide in the face of their undeniable passion. With so much working against them, can love prove stronger than the birth right and the biology that separate them?

This is book 9 in the series.i love all the black dagger brotherhood books..enjoyed the relationship between Manny and Payne..it also showed you more of Vishous,Jane and Butchs relationships. There are a few suprises, also some new characters in this book...i will say i missed some of our other characters(Beth,Rhage,Mary,Zadist,Bella,Phury,Cormia,Marrisa.Revhenge,Elena, and some....) not going to give anything away, but if you are a fan of J.R.Ward and the Black Dagger Brotherhood it is a must read and good addition to add your collection..Cant wait untill book 10 when it is Tohrs story.. It is a enjoyable read...

 Lover Unleashed is not unleashed

I am a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) and have been looking forward to read the newest addition. Lover Unleashed is very much like the other BDB novels: there is a main love story (this time between Payne, the twin sister of Vishous, and Manny, a brilliant surgeon, who is operating on Payne as she has been seriously injured), there are encounters with lessers and vampires and a continuity of the relationship/non-relationship between Quinn and Blay. There is even a side story about Vishous and his troubled past which causes problems with his relationship with Jane, his mate (it also includes getting Butch, best friend of Vishous, involved in a special way).

J.R. Ward must have a difficult job. She has so far written a magnificent series and has to be at her best when writing new material for BDB. Unfortunately Lover Unleashed is not at her best. Some of the magic has left and it is hard to really get involved. The story gets too predictable. It does have a couple of surprising elements, but this is the ninth book in the series; more originality and depth is needed. The story lacks of good dialogues and interesting main characters (unlike for instance the two previously published novels, Lover Avenged and Lover Mine). Even the ongoing Quinn/Blay story is not as moving as it has been before.

Lover Unleashed is issued in big paperback format (BDB has become big business). A standard paperback format seems to be due later this year. Wait until November and you will save yourself some money (the standard format is cheaper) and you will help the environment (it takes less paper to produce a standard format book and it take less transportation space).
