I am a big fan of McEwan's anyway so I may be a bit biased. It's an amazing book which loads each character with personality, something you might not get from the film. I liked all the three parts to the book equally and thought the ending was a great way of making a story end how you want.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Very hard read

This is one of the slowest books i have ever read. I usualy cant put a book down but this one it took me weeks to read it kept putting me to sleep. Its put me off watching movie as books are usualy better than the films.

I was determined to read the book before I saw the film and i'm glad that I did. This was one of the best books i've ever read; McEwan's effortlessness is unprecedented and his ability to add depth to each character and emphasise the significance of certain place and objects was what made me unable to put it down. I was also very impressed with the film, I thought that it was pretty much identical in most parts, but still, the book was better. I recommend anyone read it because of it's elegant complexity, compelling story and page-turning unpredictability.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Better than the film!

I am in the middle of reading the book and i really love it! i thought the film was great but im enjoying the book much more! great buy :)
i like the way in which the book visits different perspectives from the characters in the novel, telling the reader the way in which they see happenings in the book.
Fab!

This wasnt the easiet book to read - with a slow start. It was my second attempt at reading this book. The first time I read it I found it quite boring and dreary and gave up after about 20 pages - however having seen the film the book was easier read and alot better second time round.

Another beautiful book from McEwan. I couldnt put it down and read it within 3 days. The way that McEwan takes on the role of such diverse characters is totally convincing and at times made me feel so many mixed emotions from anger to pity to the heart racing excitment of new found love. Enduring love is also fantastic and his other novels are on my Xmas list.

This is one of the most heartbreaking books i have ever read. Torn apart by a malicious lie, the main characters Robbie and Cecilia are forever linked by unrequited love. Briony, Cecilia's younger sister who created the malicious lie, spends the rest of her life trying to atone for what she caused. The paradigm between the luxurious home of Cecilia and the war torn Dunkirk only adds to the heartache of a lost love. The only slight criticism is that McEwan tends to over-describe some of the scenes he is setting, in a Tolkein like way, however this anchors his passion for the story he is depicting. A fantastic read, and a beautiful story.

A brilliant book...I can actually say a beautiful book! Truly moving without being melodramatic and prose that Ì unfortunately don`t come across very often
