Twelve-year-old Amir is desperate to win the approval of his father and resolves to win the local kite-fighting tournament, to prove that he has the makings of a man. His loyal friend Hassan promises to help him - for he always helps Amir - but this is 1970s Afghanistan and Hassan is merely a low-caste servant who is jeered at in the street, although Amir still feels jealous of his natural courage and the place he holds in his father's heart. But neither of the boys could foresee what would happen to Hassan on the afternoon of the tournament, which was to shatter their lives. After the Russians invade and the family is forced to flee to America, Amir realises that one day he must return, to find the one thing that his new world cannot grant him: redemption.

Top 100 Books Reviewer

Just five stars do not do justice for the sheer power of this novel. I've always been an avid bookworm but no other book has ever shaken me the way 'The Kite Runner' has. This is a book written with such feeling that it has touched my heart deeply. The writing style is very intelligent and descriptions highly evocative. The story is heart-wrenching and shows that in the end love can peek through a tragic and horrific context. IF YOU HAVE TO READ JUST ONE BOOK IN YOUR LIFE, READ 'THE KITE-RUNNER'.

I read this book on the recomendation of someone in my office... I read it on the train to work, & all I wanted was for there to be a delay... beautifully written, you are transported to Kabul and the story between Amir and Hassan is absolutly beautiful, it bought a tear to my eye... I would recomend that every1 should read this book :-)
