When a plane crashes on a remote island, a small group of schoolboys are the sole survivors. From the prophetic Simon and virtuous Ralph to the lovable Piggy and brutish Jack, each of the boys attempts to establish control as the reality- and brutal savagery - of their situation sets in.

This book is difficult to sum up.

It has parts that make you smile, parts that are gory, parts that are hugely disturbing.

I think ultimately I can understand why it is an educational book as there is a lot of character and plot analysis that can be explored. As a recreational read it left me feeling a little bit neutral about it.
